“We purchased our 2007, Mazda 5 new in jan. 2007 from a local dealership. At a little over 9,000 miles the car began to hesitate and we returned to the dealership for the first service to fix the problem. To fast forward, here we are dec. 31st, 2011 and now we are dealing with not only hesitation and stalling, but now the car actually bucks while driving it only adding to the dangers of driving it. This is a well documented problem as we have continued to return it the same dealership each time only to be told it was fixed . This has become a safety concern, and a financial woe. …”
NHTSA complaint #10441946, filed 2011-12, 9,284 miles“I purchased a 2007 Mazda 5. This is a decent car but at colder temperatures the vehicle will stall and shutter about 1-3 minutes after start up. The colder it gets and the more miles that the car gets on it the more often this occurs. The dealership told me that this is a common issue and that Mazda has told them to flash again the computer. That was done and did not fix the issue. It is very dangerous if I pull out in traffic and this vehicle fails I am hauling myself and my husband and 4 kids that is going to be something that is Mazda's fault for not remedying the situation. …”

About 100 miles after purchase the oil filter housing, just started spewing oil. Another 500 miles later, a crunching noise began to appear in the rear end and the car was consistently steering to the right. Took it to a Mazda dealership for repair and had the rear shocks replaced stated they issue was they were leaking. The also mentioned that the vehicle was a rental vehicle owned by enterprise, but this was not disclosed at the time of purchase. …”
NHTSA complaint #10343606, filed 2010-07, 37,000 miles“2007 MAZDA5 with automatic transmission stalls ocassionally when accelerating from a stop at traffic lights. Happens most often when starting on an uphill grade. Dealership was unable to observe the problem and therefore unable to fix it. In addition, the engine intermittenly loses power for about 1 second while driving at approximately 20 MPH. This happens about 4-5 time per week, never more than once on the same day. It usually happens within the first 1/2 mile of driving the car. The dealership was also unable to observe this problem or fix it. …”

The contact stated that while driving, the check engine light illuminated and the vehicle would not accelerate beyond 15 MPH. The contact had to shut off the vehicle for a few moments in order for the vehicle to begin to perform normally. The dealer attempted to diagnose the failure but was unable to determine the cause. The manufacturer was not contacted and the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 98,000.”
