“While driving my Mazda 5, while at a stop the car idles regular for about a min then it begins to loose power and boggle down until the engine shuts down completely. The power steering indicator comes on. For this not to happen I need to keep my foot on the gas peddle. According to the dealer my VIN number does not qualify for the recall that was issued on the power steering issue. I believe that my 2007 Mazda 5 also has the same problem, stated on the recall for the power steering issue. The dealer refuses to consider my case under the recall.”

NHTSA complaint #10442602, filed 2012-01, 55,200 miles

“My vehicle was stopped at an intersection as I was waiting for an opportunity to make a left turn. As I was then making a left turn, I realized that I had lost power steering and I thought that the vehicle would completely lose all of its power and hence, its ability to move and cause me to come to a halt in the middle of the intersection. There was an oncoming car, so I just struggled to turn the wheel while I pushed down the accelerator. Thankfully, I made it out of the intersection on time. However, this situation could have had a completely different outcome. …”

NHTSA complaint #10396154, filed 2011-04, 25,700 miles

“While driving, steering suddenly with out warning became extremely difficult and hazardous to drive. Did not feel safe driving and then power steering light came on. This was driving on the street, while turning and driving ... I assume this is the power steering and also seemed to be electric because of lights deeming on radio...unknown.”

NHTSA complaint #10852921, filed 2016-04, 67,189 miles

“Mazda will not include my vehicle in this recall below because it was mfr 07/2006 and sold as a 2007: 2010-08-13 (published by NHTSA on 2010-08-13) recall summary: Mazda is recalling certain model year 2007-2009 mazda3 and MAZDA5 vehicles manufactured from april 2, 2007 through november 30, 2008. …”

NHTSA complaint #10653965, filed 2014-11, 65,000 miles

“Have 2007 Mazda 5 and power steering is just quitting at times. No warning, this steering light on the dsh comes on and the power steering seems to completely stop. Mostly happened while vehicle was stationary but did once while turning onto a road driving 45 MPH with kids in the car. Very dangerous! Can not let wife drive a car that power steering just quits out of the blue! I have seen there is a recall on this but Mazda sites all say there is no recall for this VIN?? Maybe they already did the recall and it is having issue again?”
