“94 Mercury recalled 9-12-07 for cruise control recall. Dealer did not say part was not available and removed the wire to the cruise control. I have not been able to get results on my fix, ford service said part not available. With all the parts company's closing I am sure they could have this fix in a day or two. I did not buy this car without cruise and I want and need it now. I have a bad leg that requires me to use cruise on long trips.”
NHTSA complaint #10216842, filed 2008-02, 58,217 miles“On the evening of december 20, 2005, our 1994 Mercury Grand Marquis had been parked in our garage for about 45 minutes when we discovered a furious fire that burned through the attic and roof in minutes, shooting flames 50 feet into the night sky. Fortunately no one was hurt. But the house which we rented, and most of its contents were a total loss. Subsequent investigation, which included ford representatives, showed failure of speed control override switch as cause of fire. …”
NHTSA complaint #10166742, filed 2006-08, 138,000 miles“July or august 2006. My vehicle went on fire in my driveway with no one in the car or no key in the ignition. My home was also damaged by fire. The following morning I called customer service dept of ford motor company advised them of the problem. I insisted that they remove the car from my driveway to investigate this serious problem. I was informed by the customer service rep. That was not necessary. I year later august 2007. I received a letter from the ford motor company about this recall of speed control system malfunction problem. I notified them of the above listed problem. …”
NHTSA complaint #10250579, filed 2008-12, 96,000 miles“Dt: the contact owns a 1994 Mercury Grand Marquis. The contact stated that this vehicle was experiencing the same problems as mentioned in recall 05v88000. While the contact's son was driving the fuse on the scads blew out. The only way the vehicle could be started was to put it in neutral because the vehicle will not operate if the brake lights were not working. The consumer replaced the fuse, but while replacing the fuse there was smoke coming from underneath the engine. The service dealer replaced the cruise control deactivation switch. This did remedy the problem.”
NHTSA complaint #10135828, filed 2005-09, 118,367 miles“I received a notice of a recall from the manufacturer of my car. I filed a claim because I know that the cause of the fire of my vehicle was caused by this defect. I submitted all my documents they asked for and my claim was denied.”
