“The vehicle will not disengage cruise when applying the brakes at 50 MPH on the highway. In fact it will continue to accelerate until I hit the brakes hard. I have recently disconnected the system, what a shame. I am the 2nd owner. I purchased this vehicle in sept 2017 with only 20,109 miles.”
NHTSA complaint #11081486, filed 2018-03, 24,500 miles“Started vehicle to move it in my driveway. Put it in drive and throttle stuck open and vehicle slammed my garage corner. Tried putting it in park and it went into reverse (brake override did not work) instead and crossed street, went across neighbors landscaping stones and slammed into the house next door's front porch at which time the ignition shut down and the car came to a stop. Many thousands of dollars in damages to all three homes.”
NHTSA complaint #10669300, filed 2014-12, 40,000 miles“Over the past several months, my 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis has suddenly stalled when I begin to accelerate after the car is stopped. It happened 3 times in forward mode and once in reverse. On two occasions, I had gotten several feet into the busy intersection and in one incident, an accident nearly occurred.”
NHTSA complaint #10294678, filed 2009-12, 41,000 miles“On three occasions when shifting from park to reverse the engine sped up (accelerated drastically) causing the wheels to spin and only by quick application of the brake was an incident avoided. I drove into a parking space, put the car in park, then not satisfied with the position I attempted to back up, that's when the car accelerated.”
NHTSA complaint #10146592, filed 2005-12, 8,100 miles“This has been a dangerously recurring engine accelerating problem while at rest or moving/coming to a stop on streets or highways but always while attempting to brake or hold in place. The brakes won't stop it, only turning off the ignition and restarting works. Barely avoided several accidents, so far. My ford dealer has inspected the systems and my foot placements with out finding a problem or a solution. There are over 30 complaints regarding this problem in your database, some with serious injuries. After all these years, how can this issue be escalated before there is a fatality? …”
