“Pulley bolt has broken off 3 times now within 1500 miles of driving the car.once driving on a city street, another time while sitting at a traffic light and the 3rd while on the highway going around a curve at higher speed. When the bolt breaks, it allows the pulley to be thrown around, and the serpentine belt to come off, resulting in loss of charging system, A/C system, and power steering system. The is a safety concern especially if you are traveling at high speed or turning a corner or going around a curve. …”
NHTSA complaint #11032040, filed 2017-10, 158,000 miles“The contact owns a 2007 Mercury Milan. The contact stated that while entering a parking space, the power steering failed without warning. The contact stated that the vehicle exhibited a burning rubber odor when the failure occurred. The steering wheel became increasingly stiff and there was a loud, abnormal noise from the engine. The vehicle then abnormally accelerated. The contact was unable to control the vehicle without steering and crashed into a tree. The contact was uninjured. A police report was available. She then attempted to power the vehicle off but to no avail. …”
