“I own a 2006 Mitsubishi Endeavor which was purchased 2 months ago. On june 1st I was running an errand, got out of my vehicle ran into the mall only to come out 5 minutes later to find my car had rolled into the back of a 1994 corvette. When approached by the corvette owner he proceeded to tell me I left my car in drive. I responded by saying, no, I have my keys in my hand, that's not possible. When I looked at the gearshift it was in drive. I know that this is partically my fault, however, I should have never been able to take my key out of the iginition without in being in park. …”
NHTSA complaint #10192738, filed 2007-06, 20,241 miles“The contact owns a 2006 Mitsubishi Endeavor. Immediately after parking, the vehicle rolled back very quickly. The contact attempted to get back in the vehicle; however, it was traveling too fast. The vehicle struck a parked vehicle. When the vehicle finally stopped, she noticed that the gear was still in drive. She believes this to be a safety issue because she should not have been able to remove the key from the ignition without the vehicle being placed in the park position. The speed was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 32,000.”
