“A nightmare while awake. While backing out of a bank parking lot I hit a pole lightly. I stopped the car before shifting into drive. When I accelerated the car lurched forward at a fast speed. I tried braking but the car kept going forward slamming into the back of a parked SUV with the driver inside pushing it from the parking space up onto the side walk. And side swiping a parked truck pushing it into the SUV passenger side.. The acceleration was so great I am so my car is totaled. …”

NHTSA complaint #11403185, filed 2021-03, 165,000 miles

“When driving the vehicle for no reason the engine slows down and when I try to accelerate by pressing on the gas pedal the engine does not respond. After a minute or two the engine responds and speeds up. There is also a whirring sound when this happens. This happens when the vehicle is in motion mainly on the highway. This has the ability to cause a traffic problem or an accident. I think the problem may be in the electronic throttle control.”

NHTSA complaint #10903196, filed 2016-09, 132,000 miles

“Coming home from florida in 2013, the car lost all power going down the interstate. We were able to push the gas pedal all the way to the floor and the car would not go any faster. Once we stopped and let the car sit for 15-20 minutes, we were able to go another 100-150 miles before it happened again. This has also happened twice driving home from murfreesboro. We went to florida for vacation this year and the same thing happened on the way there and on the way home. …”

NHTSA complaint #11020210, filed 2017-08, 120,000 miles

“Leased a new 2009 Nissan Altima on september 5, 2009 and on september 13, 2009 while my wife was pulling into a parking space at a local supermarket our car suddenly accelerated and crashed into the wall of the market. She was burnt on an arm because of the air bag deploying and suffered from a blood clot, both of which have healed.”

NHTSA complaint #10298603, filed 2010-01, 500 miles

“When driving for a period of time in heat, the car loses speed and begins to drop on its own. And if utilizing manual, the gears won't downshift. I've had to pull over numerous times and wait about 15 mins before driving again and it's fine. I was informed that the car needs a transmission cooler kit installed. I've seen numerous complaints of this issue and wonder why a recall has not been done on this. This is a safety issue especially driving on a highway and the car suddenly loses speed. Date listed below is the last time this issue has happened. …”
