“Vehicle shut off while driving on the highway. I was driving down the highway at 65 MPH when the truck made a quick jerk and them completely shut off. I came very close to causing a highway pile up!! I had no power, no steering no nothing. Luckily I was able to get across 3 lanes safely. Cars were slamming on brakes and luckily I didnt kill myself or anyone else. Once I got the the side of the road I was able to get the truck going and safely get to an exit. I creeped home on a wing a prayer and now the truck is sitting in my driveway. I dont dare to use it and I need it. …”

NHTSA complaint #10860461, filed 2016-04, 94,000 miles

“Nissan's rear axle design for the Frontier is faulty, utilizing a bleeder valve that clogs causing seals to fail. Failed seals cause differential oil to leak leading to axle wear, among other issues. Oil leak also spreads all over breaks leading to possible break failure. My axles were replaced in 2012 (along with breaks due to oil damage), now I'm being told (2015) that axles need to be replaced again. I believe Nissan is aware of the problem but this part failure generates revenue, as the work is costly, and leads to the need for break replacement. There needs to be a recall.”

NHTSA complaint #10726642, filed 2015-06, 90,000 miles

“Cruise control set at 50 MPH, and as car started incline, accelerator engaged abruptly and RPM increased to maximum. Multiple attempts to brake and regain control of vehicle. Truck went off road on curve and head on collision with tree occurred. Driver had both feet on brake, yet was unsuccessful in slowing vehicle.”

NHTSA complaint #10385989, filed 2011-02, 95,200 miles

“Gear oil leaking past both rear axle seals resulted in inoperative parking brake and minimal regular rear braking. Accident was cause when car rolled into homeowners garage door after being left running with the parking brake applied. Repair is to clean oil from all contaminated surfaces, replace both axle seals, replace parking brake shoes on both sides, and main brake pads on both side.”

NHTSA complaint #10249615, filed 2008-11, 72,000 miles

“The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Frontier. After the driver parked the vehicle, smoke emitted under the hood without warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the wiring harness plug connected to the antilock brake system failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 180,000.”

NHTSA complaint #10919785, filed 2016-10, 180,000 miles
