“My Xterra is subject to die at any time as if the key was turned off. Occurs whether driving or parked. Very dangerous if occurs when driving. My mechanic states that the cam shaft position sensors and the crank shaft position sensors cause this. I have replaced the cam shaft position sensors and the crankshaft position sensors twice in the one year that I have owned this vehicle.”

NHTSA complaint #11033460, filed 2017-10, 120,000 miles

“I have a 2006 Nissan Xterra. At about 55k miles the fuel gauge would read empty at anything under a 1/2 tank of fuel. My service engine soon light stays on constantly, and my tire pressure light stays on as well, even after I've just filled the tires to their required PSI. Once I fill my tank, my fuel gauge won't automatically return to full, but will rise after I've been driving.”

NHTSA complaint #10261322, filed 2009-03, 55,000 miles

“2006 Nissan Xterra fuel gauge. The gauge drops to e and sends a check engine code to the dash and doesn't read how much gas is in the Xterra at any give time. I have spoken to Nissan dealership and they have said it wasn't part of the national recall of other Nissan fuel tank issues. This is ridiculous I am still in the 60000 mile engine warranty and it should be covered my the fuel pump 60000 mile warranty as well.”

NHTSA complaint #10362543, filed 2010-10, 40,000 miles

“The radiator cooling water got into the transmission fluid. This caused strong vibration that we had to get off the road in the middle of a highway. The damage was required to replace the radiator and flush the transmission . It started other problems with the transmission safety switch that caused engine trouble alert. After few weeks the car stalled altogether and we now had to tow it to a garage. This is a problem that was reported before and I do not understand why Nissan does not fix the problem and repair the damaged units.”

NHTSA complaint #10651508, filed 2014-10, 98,500 miles

“I purchased this Xterra in may of 2006. In the past 8 weeks I have had to have my 06 Nissan Xterra towed to the dealer six times for the same issue of not starting. The first time I was told I was out of gas. Since then, I've been told the security module had gone bad, I had corrosion on the battery terminal causing it to go in to stolen mode, the fuel pump had gone bad (replaced twice), and the wiring harness to the fuel pump had a short in it (replaced twice). …”
