“You have to mess with the key to get it to start and it overloads my fuel pump and makes the fuse blow and I have to get it fixed. The key has been like that since before I purchased it and according to the original owner it's been doing that since he purchased it.”
NHTSA complaint #10836319, filed 2016-02, 190 miles“There have been several occasions that while driving my 2001 Pontiac Grand Am it shuts off. I can be on the highway during rush hour traffic and the oil and battery lights turn on and the car dies. I have replaced the battery, alternator and fuel pump all within the past 6 months. We have done a full tune up to the car as well. The problem started about a year ago and after a while it stopped, now it started doing this to me again yesterday. Today while driving in the rain during afternoon traffic the car shut off 4 times on the highway and 1 time while I was at a red light. …”
NHTSA complaint #10466521, filed 2012-07, 132,000 miles“I picked up my brand new 2001 Grand Am with 1 mile on it, it was during a heavy down pour. The next morning I noticed both front and back floor boars were drenched. I've have the vehicle in on numerous occations for this problem and it is always after a heavy rain. They first stated the deflectors were broke/turned/etc. They had it in there for days under a hose, however, I told them it has to be heavy rain. They cannot duplication the problem and are now claiming some one is playing a joke on me. …”

NHTSA complaint #10040954, filed 2003-09, 68,000 miles“I own a 2001 Grand Am. For the last couple of weeks, I had noticed a clunking sound when going over rough roads acompanied by vibrations in the steering wheel. I took the car in today to have the problem resolved. It turned out that my strut mounts and on both the driver side and passenger side were broken. This car has never been involved in any kind of accident. I was shocked that such a serious defect was discovered. Luckily, the car is still under warranty so no expense was passed on to me but, the concern that this could have LED to an accident is very real. …”
