Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Initially, my instrument screen on my vehicle went black and stopped working. I had to drive roughly 10 miles home without the use of my speedometer. After replacing the AXM module, the cruise control and lane-keeping functions intermittently stop working. The vehicle was at the service center on and off for 57 days before it was returned to me without a resolution. I’m told this issue is affecting 30 vehicles in the Rivian fleet; however, they don't yet have a permanent fix. …”

NHTSA complaint #11715815, filed 2026-02

“The R1T has four cameras to assist the driver and provide warnings for lane changes, etc. The cameras are routinely failing while I am driving the vehicle. This started after an OTA software update. A software reset will turn the cameras back on, though they have repeatedly failed. Rivian attempted to correct the issue by replacing the front camera, which they determined was faulty. The cameras have continued to fail since then.”

NHTSA complaint #11745247, filed 2026-06

“The backup cameras and sensors stopped working after update 2026.31.0 pushed by Rivian. The camera just doesn't load anymore, and proximity sensors stopped working. Multiple soft and hard resets did not resolve.”

NHTSA complaint #11773125, filed 2026-10

“The Driver+ (D+) feature on the Rivians have both adaptive cruise control and lane centering active at the same time. There is a function unknown to me that controls whether or not the D+ feature can turn on or remain on. In certain situations, the D+ features asks the driver the disable the system by pushing the right stalk upward with a red message on the gauge console screen. In other situations, the D+ feature forcibly disables with a similar red message on the gauge console screen. …”
