“The main screen that controls everything has a massive issue. It controls all the functions in the car, like the rear back up camera, ability to control AC, etc. The screen is peeling from the inside, and many people have reported this on the Tesla forums. Tesla wants to charge me at least $2500 to fix the problem, and I know this is affecting many cars.”

NHTSA complaint #11355701, filed 2020-09, 41,000 miles

“Vehicle touchscreen constantly freezes and needs to be restarted. I reported this issue to Tesla due to their claimed extended warranty on mcu issues, however, they have refused replacement. I am concerned about my safety driving the vehicle as a significant amount of operations are controlled by the touchscreen.”

NHTSA complaint #11390619, filed 2021-01, 64,000 miles

“The car was pending an over the air update which I was delaying because of the research I found online about the computer touchscreen chip going out. The update was forced to the car while it was in my garage and after the update the touchscreen was non functional. Because of this most features were not usable like A/C and radio. The more important features that were not able to use were that the turn signal.”

NHTSA complaint #11354287, filed 2020-09, 140,000 miles

“Mcu main computer failed, prevented me from using defrost couldn't see while driving almost caused an accident as my entire front window view got block. The mcu allows you to use the screen which lets you turn on defrost. Very dangerous situation. This also controls your headlights.”

NHTSA complaint #11361430, filed 2020-09, 55,841 miles

“Panoramic roof has crack on my first generation 2013 Tesla Model S, which Tesla claims to be due to impact with something from outside and my car is safe in garage with nothing over it when this happened. I wondered how can this be possible on a car with 5-star safety rating that roof cracks and it's not covered part of the vehicle warranty program.”
