“While I was preparing to park. The car accelerated on it's own and jumped the curb. The break was not responsive, and I was unable to stop the car. The car hit a pole and stopped. I called the police and filed a police report. This is second time that this has happened since owning the car.”
NHTSA complaint #11396340, filed 2021-02, 1,995 miles“Today, mar. 22, 2021, in my brand new 2021 Tesla Model Y, which I have now owned for one month, I was sitting at a red light at a fairly large intersection on the outskirts of annapolis, md. I had my foot resting on the floor as the car was stopped and in hold mode. Suddenly, with the light still red and on its own, my car accelerated through the red light into the intersection at top speed. (I was the first car in line at the red light.) I slammed my foot on the brake but nothing happened, it kept going right through. …”
NHTSA complaint #11404368, filed 2021-03, 795 miles“I was driving my car when suddenly it started losing power while I was driving 70 - 80mph, and I noticed two messages on the screen: power limited, schedule service and power reduced” and then my car would no longer drive above 50 - 55mph and the heat in the car was reduced . Concerned about the issue, I promptly contacted Tesla to have my vehicle serviced. However, to my surprise, after performing a diagnosis, they insisted that there was nothing wrong with the car. The component I believe failed is the heating pump, which is still installed in the vehicle. …”
NHTSA complaint #11527816, filed 2023-06“I was accelerating out of a parking lot and was up to 30 MPH when the vehicle suddenly shut down and the rear end began shaking. The control screen went completely black/off. I could not accelerate at all. A semi truck was coming from behind and the vehicle came to a sudden stop within a few seconds. I could not coast and pull into a parking lot. It felt like an emergency brake was turned on or the back wheels locked up. I had to turn into the center turn lane. Vehicle doors would not open and hazard lights would not turn on. Opened manual door handle and forced my way out. …”
NHTSA complaint #11540029, filed 2023-08“Sudden acceleration. I was stopped in my driveway (flat surface). The car started to roll forward and I pressed brake hard. Vehicle came to a complete stop but when I removed my foot from brake car lurched forward. Car hit a retaining wall approximately 3 feet away before I could stop it again by braking hard. When the car was put in park I was able to remove my foot from the brake without it lurching forward again. Little personal safety risk in this situation in my driveway with no other people around. the car hit the retaining wall at relatively low speed when it lurched forward.”
