“I am reporting a potentially serious rear suspension safety defect involving a 2024 Tesla Model Y manufactured in January 2024. On August 22, 2026, during tire service, technicians demonstrated excessive movement of the right-rear wheel while applying torque. I observed the entire wheel visibly shifting relative to the wheel opening and recorded the movement on video. I postponed a prepaid wheel alignment and scheduled a Tesla inspection. Tesla subsequently confirmed excessive play in the right-rear upper ball joint and replaced it. …”
NHTSA complaint #11774206, filed 2026-10“• What the issue is: Intermittent suspension noise/clunking that suggests a possible failing component. • Why it’s a safety concern: Potential suspension failure could cause loss of control. • What Tesla did: Tesla refused warranty service related to a safety issue involving the suspension because they said they could not hear the noise, despite repeated reports. I asked them to look at the suspension anyway and they refused my warranty service stating that since they could not hear anything they would not inspect and cancelled my appointment. …”
NHTSA complaint #11753674, filed 2026-07“I am filing this complaint to report a serious safety defect in the Tesla Model Y. On [date], my wife suffered a rear tire blowout at freeway speeds in our Tesla Model Y. Despite regularly checking tire tread depth and relying on Tesla’s built-in tire monitoring systems, the blowout occurred because the inside edges of the rear tires had worn down to exposed cords, while the outside tread still appeared to have ample depth. Tesla Service attempted to explain this away as “normal wear and tear” and a need for alignment. However, this is misleading. …”
NHTSA complaint #11686167, filed 2025-09“While driving, my vehicle released a loud pop and metal noise. After pulling over large bolts fell from the front of my car caused by a suspension issue. Tesla service later confirmed that the problem was due to improper torque in the suspension components, specifically the front lower links. This resulted in hardware failure, including bolts loosening or coming out of the suspension assembly. This is a serious safety concern, as it could have led to loss of control while driving. The vehicle required replacement of suspension components and hardware under warranty. …”
NHTSA complaint #11732596, filed 2026-04“My Tesla (dark gray) was t-boned by a 2015 Hyundai (white) while it was passing the intersection on green light. The Hyundai hit my car when it tried to turn right on red light. My car was running at around 25 mph at that moment. About one second before the accident, my car's front collision warning went off, but everything was too late; the Hyundai's left front bumper hit my car. The crash did not cause any serious damage on the white Hyundai; as you can see in the photo, it barely got any dents, except its left front headlight cap was broken. …”
