Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“I received the engine maintenance required notification on 7/11. On 7/13, I called my Toyota to make an appt to bring it in at 9 AM. The ran diagnostics for $180 and then the test results said the engine coolant valve is stuck open or closed but either is dangerous because my car could overheat. This is a $850 repair. It sounds like this same part was used on another Toyota suv and the warranty was extended for those so this part needs to be recalled or warranty extended for the 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross as well. I was waiting for this repair to be done for 5 hours total.”

NHTSA complaint #11750359, filed 2026-07

“2022 Toyota Corolla Cross AWD – repeat direct fuel injector failure within 14 months / 15,500 miles. 1) Aug 22, 2025 (29,990 mi): Cylinder 4 direct injector failed. Toyota dealer replaced it under warranty and rebuilt the other three injectors. 2) Aug 26, 2025: Strong fuel smell inside the cabin, traced to injector gaskets. All four gaskets were replaced. 3) Oct 17, 2026 (45,500 mi): Cylinder 1 injector, one of the three rebuilt in Aug 2025, failed while driving. Dealer diagnosed a leaking injector causing misfire and cylinder flooding. …”

“Twice in 2 years the fuel gauge didn't go past 3/4 mark after it was filled all the way. After 2 days and refilled, the gauge went back to the full mark.”
