“We have a 2001 Toyota we noticed that the check engine light would come on every month and so I took the car to autozone for a free diagnostic test each time with the result showing that the car has an electric short circuit problem. This is a defect in the timing chain and a part called a cam. To fix the problem it would cost me around 800 dollars. I reported the problem but they just ignored me. The result is I have to do an oil change every 1200 miles as there is no oil in the engine after 800 miles. Normally one would have an oil change done every 3000 miles. …”

NHTSA complaint #11133326, filed 2018-10, 132,000 miles

“The contact owns a 2001 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated that the low beam headlights illuminated to see approximately 10 feet of the road. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (cox Toyota of burlington, north carolina for diagnostic testing. The dealer had not rendered a diagnosis. The vehicle was still at the dealer getting repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.”

NHTSA complaint #11012869, filed 2017-08, 100,000 miles

“When the high-beams are activated, they shine a beam of light vertically from both lenses. The beams formsan x that crosses directly in front of the drivers field of vision- it is so pronounced that it lights up trees above the car. I contacted Toyota service and asked if it was a lens problem with my vehicle- they said they have received complaints before but have no plans to redesign headlight lenses. This situation is a distraction to the driver, and affects visability - especially in rain or haze when light beam bounces off and obscures forward vision.”

NHTSA complaint #732220, filed 2000-09

“When traveling down hill with the dealer installed cruise control on, vehicle will chug as if it is losing power or out of gas. Also, when it's raining. When vehicle is traveling on an incline, tires will spin. Cruise control will decelerate. Consumer states headlights are adjusted too low, hesistation feeling when traveling slightly down hill, dealer adjusted throttle cable but condition still exsists.”

NHTSA complaint #8005340, filed 2002-03

“Bright beams reflected from each headlight form an x right in front of the driver's field of view when driving in snow or fog. The beams are bright enough to create a real distraction to the driver.”
