“Daytime running lights, drl problem. I am often required to drive with lights off on property as an astronomer at nighttime. My 2005 Toyota Corolla lights are always on even when the lights are in the off position. If stalked or my girlfriend drives the car we could not turn them off and drive away and escape alive. This is a hazard that can cause death or rape from stalkers or robbers. I often am alone at night in dark deserted areas and need to be able to turn light off or on as needed. I could not get on the observatory property due to this defect.”
NHTSA complaint #10104331, filed 2004-12, 100 miles“The headlights seem noticeably dim at night while driving. I thought it could be my eyes, but then a rider with me noticed it as well and mentioned it to me, so I know it is not my eyes. I prefer not to drive at night because of it. I had my garage mechanic look at it about a year ago to see if the lights needed adjustment, as both headlights seemed off from each other when I am parked in my garage. I can't remember if he tried to make an adjustment or not.”
NHTSA complaint #10680303, filed 2015-02“In late 2004, I financed a brand new 2005 Toyota Corolla while residing in south florida. In summer 2008, I relocated to massachusetts. It was in winter 2008 that the engine warning lamp illuminated. I immediately took the vehicle to a Toyota dealership. I wasn't really given a real explanation of why the warning lamp was illuminated. I was quickly told it could be fixed. So I paid approx. $800.00 to supposedly have it fixed. Literally, two weeks later the engine warning lamp came back on. …”

NHTSA complaint #10418527, filed 2011-08, 50,000 miles“The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated that the plastic headlight coverings were discolored, which caused poor visibility while driving at night. The manufacturer stated that the dealer could clean the headlights, which would make them thinner. The contact did not believe that would be effective. The failure mileage was 34,271. Updated 06/09/09 the consumer stated the plastic headlight lens that covers the headlight was starting to discolor.
