“Every time it rains and creates a water puddle on the road, when I drive my car through it, water goes up under the car causing it to lose power, to momentarily shut down and I lose my steering. The battery light comes on as well. Also when I come to a stop the car starts shaking or vibrating and it seems like it wants to shut off.”

NHTSA complaint #10548856, filed 2013-10, 80,000 miles

“Most important: we do not drive the car now. Unable to get answers to possible solutions. Called Toyota they said they cannot assist if the problem is not happening when they get the car. This problem is intermittent at best. I asked if they had problems such as mine below and can give me some idea and they said they cannot assist me without having the problem occur while they have the car. We cannot drive the car for it may shut down on us. Latest problem: the vehicles engine shut down while driving 30 MPH. …”

NHTSA complaint #10676200, filed 2015-01, 270,000 miles

“My 2004 Toyota Corolla had an unexpected acceleration while driving home from work. My mother (the driver at the time) removed her foot from the accelerator pedal and while braking the vehicle accelerated at full speed right before going over a speed bump near to our residence. My mother crashed into the side walk and she was able to stop the car using the parking brake and eventually shut it down. We were able to take the car home, where the car is currently parked but the car won't start again. Luckily, we didn't have any injuries, fire or mayor crash into anything. …”

NHTSA complaint #10640493, filed 2014-10, 102,000 miles

“When reversing, the shift cable broke and car began rolling. Even in park, it would not stay parked. Had to engage security brake in order to keep the car from rolling away.”

NHTSA complaint #10587247, filed 2014-05, 105,000 miles

“Without any indication of a potential problem, my car lost complete power while driving it. In addition, my speedometer was stuck on 50 (I just got off the interstate & was going residential speed), my gas gauge reflected I had a full tank (I actually had a half of a tank) and my temp gauge said my engine was completely cool. I don't know what caused this to happen, but I'm lucky that it did not happen to me while I was on the interstate! …”
