“Car has broke down a total of 4 times since I have gotten it from Toyota back in December of 2023. I have a dash-cam now that has footage of the car breaking down. Toyota fails to acknowledge my concerns and comes up with excuses and tells me to wait until it happens more frequently. I would love to have this car inspected, but as Toyota has stated they cannot get the issue to repeat. My safety for others and myself feel uneasy with the whole ordeal as it happens at the most random times. …”
NHTSA complaint #11672164, filed 2025-07“My vehicle stalled when pulling out into traffic. I lost power steering and electrical and the engine died. The vehicle had to be restarted to continue driving. I was going about 1 to 2 mph when the issue happened. The vehicle was in motion and stalled while other vehicles were in motion putting my safety at risk, had I been going any faster or if there was an increased amount of traffic. I reported the problem to the dealer service center, but they were unable to reproduce it. The vehicle was inspected by Toyota only, no police or insurance. …”
NHTSA complaint #11595388, filed 2024-06“The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated that while driving at undisclosed speeds and decelerating, the vehicle was jerking abnormally. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made of the failure and a case was filed; however, the contact had not received any communication from the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 27,000.”
NHTSA complaint #11586515, filed 2024-05, 27,000 miles“Morning of 08/11/2024, started car and put in Sport mode. Drove under 20 mph for 3 blocks to leave neighborhood. Got to main street intersection and waited for an opening, then pressed the gas and nothing happened except the check engine light came on and dash message of Ignition On, but car was not operating. Pushed ignition button and it came on and dash cleared. Has not happened again and dealership could not replicate and no codes saved.”
NHTSA complaint #11608530, filed 2024-08“Upon startup in cold weather conditions, a brief but loud grinding/rattling sound will occur. The noise is related to an inadequate spring inside of the intake camshaft gear which will not push a small cylinder in place to lock the intake camshaft gear in place. When not in its proper place, the gear will rattle in its housing, causing the brief noise. If the gear rattles against its housing too hard overtime, it can break and cause catastrophic engine failure by sending metal pieces into the engine, including pistons and rods.”
