“The spare tire mechanism broke on my 2001 Toyota Sienna minivan. Thankfully I was trying to remove the spare when it happened and the spare tire did not go flying into traffic. The cable broke at the end where the cable goes through the metal holder/bracket that actually clamps to the wheel. If this had broken off when the van was moving, either the van would have been damaged by the spare getting caught between the road and the van or the spare may have hit another car. …”

“I have been complaining for the last 2 years to Toyota about my 2002 Sienna regarding steering wheel vibration while driving on the highway. They have checked the car and told me they found nothing. The car is dangerous to drive at high speeds.”

NHTSA complaint #10344536, filed 2010-07, 45,000 miles

“I had two incidents of tire failure on the highway where the tires just came apart at speeds of 70 MPH. The first tire had about 40k miles on it and the 2nd tire had 50k miles on it. I had a close call, but no accident.”

NHTSA complaint #10165039, filed 2006-08, 50 miles

“I have a significant safety issue that does not fit the ordinary type of complaint. I believe that the tire industry is putting thousands of drivers at risk in winter driving because of policies that ignore normal driving conditions. Because of test on vehicles that are skidding out of control they are making policies that put the driver at risk when driving in snow. They recommend that two tires with greater tread always be installed on the rear wheels. Skids are a result of driving too fast. However if you cannot move the car their recommendation is of absolutely no value. …”

NHTSA complaint #10433801, filed 2011-11

“After driving about 2-2 1/2 hrs. My tire unexpectedly went immediately flat. My speed was about 60 MPH, and I had 262 miles on my brand new car. After speaking to both the dealership and firestone, firestone deemed it was roadside hazard and not repairable. There was a gash in the sidewall of the tire. After all of the notices on these tires and my experience with them, I don't feel safe in my new car. (tiresize: p215/65r15)( DOT number: tire size: p215/65r15 )”
