“The spare tire separated from the cross member on my 2001 Tundra. Fortunately I was at slow speed. I now know you have opened an investigation but wanted to be sure to log the issue. My truck is no longer drivable and Toyota has told me that they do not have the parts to fix it yet. I think it is time that you require Toyota to replace the frame and all associated components. This is not isolated to just the rear crossmember, there is rust throughout the whole underside of the vehicle.”

NHTSA complaint #10298525, filed 2010-01, 97,000 miles

“Low mileage, two year old front tires beginning to separate at inner sidewalls, making vibrations above 50+ MPH and shaking vehicle so bad almost undriveable at highway speeds. Alignment shop said get them checked. Re-balancing tires had no effect, moved front tires to rear then bed of truck would vibrate at speed. Replace the 2 tires in question and problem resolved. Had tire shop look at the tires and they found tread separation at inner sidewalls of both suspect tires. …”

NHTSA complaint #11399566, filed 2021-03, 126,298 miles

“I sent in my Toyota Tundra for a safety recall the ssc 90-m recall and the dealership did nothing but spray crc over the rust when I brought it to there attention that the fuel straps were not changed or the spare tire that has previously dislodged from the vehicle was still in the bed of the truck they said it is not our problem . What action can I take on this?”

NHTSA complaint #10455955, filed 2012-04

“When driving in wet weather conditions at 40 MPH, consumer was attempting to avoid a flooded area, when the consumer suddenly lost control of vehicle, upon impact of hitting an end post, the driver and passenger side air bags failed to deploy, driver sustained head and chest injuries. Consumer stated when trying to get over to avoid the flood, the vehicle rapidly accelerated on its own, consumer believes the cause of failure may have been the 2 tires on the passenger side may have come off the rims, causing loss of control of vehicle. Tire information (b.f. Goodrich p265/70r16)”
