Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“I was on a camping trip in Wyoming, and I started my Tundra up on a chilly morning. It was running for about 5 minutes before I came back to it and entered the cab. Immediately upon entering I noticed a strange smell. I also noticed at that time that the driver’s seat was extremely warm. I quickly shut off the heat warmer (original equipment on the truck). Inspecting the seat, I could see where the leather was just starting to melt. Luckily, I caught this in time, for if I would have left it longer, the vehicle could have caught fire. …”

NHTSA complaint #11551960, filed 2023-10

“The seat heater control module has failed causing the plastic to burn and melt, nearly starting a fire. Toyota knows about this but refuses to issue a safety recall.”
