“My engine is making a rattling noise while driving and while parked. I was originally told the noise was probably my exhaust system but was later on told that I would need to replace the engine. This vehicle only has 138,000 miles on it and maintenance has been done only at dealerships. The rattling noise is either rods that need to be repaced or a timing chain.”
NHTSA complaint #11145295, filed 2018-11, 138,000 miles“I have a light on my dash that looks like an engine. Had the car tested and it shows that it is a little module type deal that has had to do with fuel evaporation or something on that line. Sounds like they are notorious for going bad. Its like a $300 part.”
NHTSA complaint #10668561, filed 2014-12“The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Yaris. The contact stated while the vehicle was receiving routine maintenance, the mechanic stated that the chain sprockets on both camshafts were worn. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that there was no recall on the VIN. The failure mileage was 160,000.”
NHTSA complaint #11511225, filed 2023-03, 160,000 miles“The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Yaris. While driving various speeds, the contact stated that the vehicle stalled intermittently and without warning. Immediately following the failure, the check engine light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnostic test which confirmed that the wiring harness needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 94,401.”
NHTSA complaint #10592580, filed 2014-05, 94,401 miles“The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Yaris. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled while driving 30 MPH. The check engine light illuminated as the failure occurred. The vehicle resumed normal function when the engine was restarted. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic where a diagnostic was performed, which located the failure at the throttle sensor and the engine wiring harness. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 76,000 and the current mileage was 76,215.”
