“On 1/29/11 I ran out of gas when the fuel gauge showed that I had 1/8 of a tank.the dealer said that he fuel sending device had to be replaced on my 2008 Toyota Yaris. I was told by the dealer that this happens on yarises a lot' . If this is happening so much why isn't the part being recalled? It is not safe to run out of gas unexpectedly, especially in the middle of the street or freeway.”

NHTSA complaint #10384257, filed 2011-02, 33,000 miles

“I was driving to work one morning and my car stopped out of nowhere and it wouldn't start again. I called a tow truck to take it to a repair center just to find that I had no gas eventhough the dash indicated I still had a little less than half a tank of gas . I was informed that I could either buy a new gas tank which would cost a lot or keep track if the miles and fill the gas tank accordingly. I was about to get on the freeway if this would if happened there it could of caused a major accident. …”

NHTSA complaint #10713460, filed 2015-04, 120 miles

“After washing the underside of the car, the cel came on. Five p codes came up on scanner. The dealer told me that water got into the charcoal canister and that I would have to replace it along with other related parts total cost to me $1027.83 which includes nys tax not including labor charge. Toyota has corrected this problem on the newer models but mine was beyond the warranty even though they admit to a defect. Included in the parts list is some sort of water deflector so that this will not happen again. Toyota said that there has not been enough complaints to warrant a recall. …”

NHTSA complaint #10726307, filed 2015-06, 50,000 miles

“I was driving my Yaris and attempted to pass another vehicle on a 4-lane road. I pressed on the accelerator pedal as I entered the left lane and nothing happened. The pedal went halfway down, but the engine did not respond. As I quickly tried to decide what to do as a car in the left lane behind me came up fast, the engine responded unexpectedly and I surged forward. The next time I depressed the pedal, it responded normally at the top of its travel. However, it happened again about 3 weeks later when I was stopped at a red light. The light changed and I pressed on the accelerator. …”

NHTSA complaint #10401728, filed 2011-05, 39,500 miles

“I have a light on my dash that looks like an engine. Had the car tested and it shows that it is a little module type deal that has had to do with fuel evaporation or something on that line. Sounds like they are notorious for going bad. Its like a $300 part.”
