“I purchased my 2009 vw EOS from a dealeriship as-is and I have had to replace the maf sensor, throttlebody had to be serviced with in the first year of owning. Oil leaking from engine onto the water pump. Now, the ABS and traction electrical system is completely messed up and I can't drive it. Estimation of $2500 worth of work.”

NHTSA complaint #10918906, filed 2016-10, 99,000 miles

“Timing chain tensioner system failure I'm reaching out in regards to legal advice regarding timing chain tensioner system failure on my 2009 Volkswagen EOS. While traveling with my two young sons for their spring break, my car completely failed (while in-motion), putting both my life and the lives of my two children in harm's way. The time and resources spent getting my car towed to the mechanic, emotional trauma/stress, and loss in productivity has been a blow for my family- not to mention the cost to repair (which I have yet to receive the invoice). …”

NHTSA complaint #11078965, filed 2018-03, 111,000 miles

“My wife was turning into a parking lot when the engine suddenly made a noise and lost forward power. She was stuck in the middle of an intersection and could have been killed! We spoke to our mechanic and he diagnosed the problem as a failed timing chain tensioner. This caused the engine valves to impact the pistons and caused catastrophic engine damage. We paid $2706.25 to buy a used engine and $1500 in labor for the installation. Our mechanic said this is very common with this engine and that he see this happen with engines that have low mileage. Our had 80125 when this happened.”

NHTSA complaint #11000514, filed 2017-06, 80,125 miles

“Check engine light came on, when taken to dealership they say I have a faulty intake manifold runner and it needs to be replaced. If not the vehicle may/will stall. This same part was recalled in the 2006-2008 models of this vehicle and several others. Are the 2009 models affected? The vehicle has been maintained all maintenance has been done to manufacturers recommendations.”

NHTSA complaint #10463367, filed 2012-06, 114,500 miles

“Car experiences sudden loss of acceleration, nearly causing accident from cars behind. This has happened sporadically in motion on city streets and the car has been back to the dealer (vw world nptune nj) several times. First time they could not replicate problem and nothing was done, second time they replaced several components at cost of $2,000 but that did not fix problem and now it back at dealer and they are asking another $1300 for repairs.”
