Example complaints
Transmission and drivetrain: “2014 Jetta Hybrid doesn't accelerate past 25-30 MPH causing a high rev and in this case a jerk foward if the turbo was activated causing a collision with a chevy tahoe the suvs towing wrench to crumple our hood and more damage to front end of our vehicle on other days before the accident our vehicle would put off the sthe overwhelming smell of transmission fluid almost as if a skunk was under our car”
NHTSA complaint #11192915, filed 2019-04, 90,000 milesEngine: “While driving just after I exited the freeway, was pulling into a parking lot to go have lunch, the engine died, and the steering locked up, was unable to steer. I went in ate lunch drove it home on surface streets without a problem. It is a hybrid, I have taken it to the dealership, and they're telling me it is $13,000 to fix, but I'm more concerned that the car again could just lock up, and not steer.”
NHTSA complaint #11058447, filed 2018-01, 128,000 milesElectrical system: “All warning lights came on and the car died (stalled out) on an interstate highway. Car was not drivable. Lost all power. The car had to be towed to the nearest vw dealer (vw of naples, fl). Upon inspection, the dealer noted that the hybrid would run for about 3-minutes and then turn off. Vw determined that the electric drive power and control electronic module (jx1) had failed. It took 12 days to repair, since the power module needed to be shipped from germany. The root cause for the power module (jx1) failure is currently not known. Please investigate further, since this is a safety concern.”
NHTSA complaint #10606863, filed 2014-06, 4,394 milesBrakes: “The braking ability varies depending if the battery is being charged or not. The pressure applied to the brake pedal depends on the battery charge and not the pressure on the pedal. Engine fails to engage on a steep slope causing the vehicle to roll backwards. This happens frequently when the engine is cold. The engine will not warm up to operating temperature if the hybrid motor is engaged”
