“We have a 2005 Volvo s60r. After hitting a pothole and destroying the right front tire and rim we replaced all four tires and wheels with o.e.m. 17 wheels and pirelli p6 tires. Less than 1000 miles later two of the tires developed bulges in the sidewall at the exact same location on each tire. Kline Volvo would do nothing about it saying it was road hazard damage, but these tires didn't hit anything that doesn't occur in the normal course of driving, small road irregularities at low speed, etc. …”
NHTSA complaint #10157906, filed 2006-05, 18,795 miles“While driving on I-81 in virginia my left rear tire disintegrated. I was able to move right to safety and when doing so the upper half of the tire rolled past me and came to rest 50 feet ahead of the car against the railing. All tires are new, with less than 200 miles on them. I called 911, the state police came and called a wrecker. I was towed and received a replacement tire at a car shop and returned home. On inspection it appeared that the sidewall complete gave a way. Fortunately a piece of the rubber stayed on the rim thus protecting the rim from damage. …”
NHTSA complaint #10281476, filed 2009-08, 37,680 miles“2005 Volvo S60 awd turbo. The right tire rubs on the inside of the cars frame when I make a left turn. We have been told they all do it. We have driven a few other types of the S60 model and have found they have the same issue. Now, our issue is that over time this will/could cause the tire to fail and result in a crash. Volvo has realigned the car twice to try to correct the issue, now they would like to remove the inner metal shields to see if that will help. We feel those shield were put on the car for a reason and the reason is not to be taken off at a later date to cover up a problem.”
NHTSA complaint #10144742, filed 2005-12, 1,500 miles“Volvo s60r 2005 had several inspections in authorized Volvo dealers, being checked for suspension noises x 3. Had flat tire and tire shop realized there was three 17 inches tire and the flat one was 18 inches tire. Car brought from richardson, had maintenance/service in mcallen texas.”
NHTSA complaint #10149609, filed 2006-02, 19,200 miles“Dt: the sidewall of the tire is very weak on the back right rear tire. The owner was parallel parking and the right rear tire rubbed against the curb, and the tire ripped. This is a new vehicle, 2005 Volvo, the car was bought in april. There was no prior problems with the tire before this incident. The owner is calling the dealer after this phone call. The tire is a continental conti touring contact. The speed was about an 1/2 MPH. The owner is going to get ahold of the service department and see what they recommend. The consumer stated the manufacturer was not willing to assist.”
