Example complaints

Body and structure: “Severe subframe rust due to excessive heat from the exhaust on the v8 models of the Volvo s80s only. Dealer said the excessive heat will melt the paint off, causing rust to attract to the subframe. The subframe is a critical component to the car, unfortunately although Volvo has said this is a common problem on the v8 models, they will not do anything to fix the problem. This is the only place my vehicle has rust, and the car is undercoated yearly.”

NHTSA complaint #11364120, filed 2020-10, 201,000 miles

Electrical system: “The car was purchased on march 1, 2012. Shortly after the purchase of the car the wiper blades malfunctioned. They did not work properly and we had to pull off to side of the road on the highway with our children in the car. They would not shut off even after we pulled the key out of the ignition. It was a huge visibility hazard. We called the dealership where it was purchased and they would not help us, even though it was still within our 30 day warranty period. Every time we operated the vehicle the wipers would turn on even when we took the key out of the ignition. …”

NHTSA complaint #10455246, filed 2012-04, 40,000 miles

He kept the vehicle in drive, where it attempted to start, but it would only run for 5-6 seconds. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. According to the service invoice, the maf sensor was bad and the air filter had become wet at some point.”
