Example complaints
Equipment: “The contact owns a 2018 Winnebago View RV built on a 2017 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500 chassis. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at 60 MPH, the retractable awning inadvertently extended during transit. No warning lights were illuminated. The RV was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The RV was repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related it to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V696000 (Structure, Equipment) but the VIN was not included. NHTSA complaint #11541952, filed 2023-08, 35,000 milesOther or unknown: “Fresh water tank falling out from the bottom of the rv. If we did not notice it before continuing on our trip, it would have totally fallen onto the road putting our tow car and other drivers at serious risk. The tank was emptied and temporarily secured so we could return home. There were no warning messages prior to failure.”
NHTSA complaint #11550109, filed 2023-10Electrical system: “The main wire harness going to the engine runs along the firewall behind the window wiper motor and it was rubbing against it causing it to cut through the harness covering and it shorted out the wiring to the right cylinder band. The engine shut off in the middle of the highway with no warning. This happened several times while we tried to get the vehicle out of the road to safety and we were involved in a minor accident, fortunately no one was hurt. The mechanic found the problem after being told to check the harness as this is a common issue. The camper only has approximately 3000 miles. …”
