Example complaints
Engine: “Check engine light came on while on the highway, transmission would not automatically shift up beyond 6th gear (8 speed transmission) at highway speeds. Transmission could be shifted manually into 7th and 8th gears, but engine was lugging on level highway at 60mph. Audi service center states the hydraulic timing chain tensioner has failed, causing engine timing issues that could result in catastrophic failure if driven further. The car has approximately 87k miles on it and has been meticulously maintained since purchased new. …”
NHTSA complaint #11061499, filed 2018-01, 87,000 milesSteering: “2014 Audi A5 with approx 62k miles. The steering system has begun to offer inconsistent resistance to driver input, which impacts driver's ability to judge the amount of force needed to turn the wheel to the desired position. When turning the wheel from center to either stop, there are several sectors where it feels like the assist is working, and several where the steering gets heavy and hard to turn. The issue occurs at various speeds and while stopped. It seems similar to issues reported with 2013 a4 and A5 models.”
NHTSA complaint #11302952, filed 2020-01, 62,000 milesElectrical system: “Nhtsa recall number: 18v229 manufacturer recall number: 19n4 recall date: I was notified of this in december of 2017. Nothing has happened yet, but it is sept 10th 2018 and there is no solution. I was unable to make a trade-in of my vehicle due to the unresolved recall issue. I do not think this has been taken care of in a timely manner.”
NHTSA complaint #11128559, filed 2018-09, 29,364 milesOther or unknown: “Jack failed while using to lift car. The teeth (hidden underneath the silver body mounting point) which engage the left and right halves of the jack scissors had become mashed up, and slipped a notch or two, suddenly dropping the car downwards. Yes I have the part for inspection. Audi Seattle service department said my only alternative through them was ordering a new one for full price. Yes they saw the jack.”
