Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“If cell phone placed on the passenger seat, it could cause a false seat belt light to illuminate. I noticed while charging my phone through the usb port and the phone is charging; I can repeat the incident over and over. It is unclear if the airbags are functional at this time. This could happen in motion at any speed (highway/city) or while stationary.”

NHTSA complaint #11001453, filed 2017-06, 66,000 miles

“Car remains subject to an airbag inflator recall 15 months after I bought it. This recall is blocking me from trading the car at a dealer for something different, because they are not allowed to sell the car with a pending recall.”

NHTSA complaint #11005927, filed 2017-07, 44,000 miles

“My vehicle shows the following error message passenger restraint malfunction at random times while I am driving without a passenger or whenever a passenger decides to move around. The error will also appear at random times whenever I have a passenger. I ran obd reading and it gave the error code 930a1c-ods-system: seat occupancy sensor passenger: sending sensor failure because of wetness ,0, zp. I have never spilled liquid matter on the seats and I live in a dry desert environment where temperatures range from 80 to 110 degrees fahrenheit. …”

NHTSA complaint #11220765, filed 2019-06, 90,072 miles

“Passenger restraint system malfunction symbol came on on two different occasions as I started the car and remained on as I drove it and when I restarted it it was gone briefly”

NHTSA complaint #10851073, filed 2016-03, 33,000 miles

“Out of nowhere, on 6/24, the warning light came on saying that there is an issue with the passenger restraint system. It stays on when there is no one in the seat and then, even if someone is in the seat, it will turn off. I have not had an accident or had the car flooded to warrant a system malfunction like that. I have read that this has happened to other owners of this model and it is a faulty mat sensor that costs over $1000 to repair.”
