“Pulling into parking spot and truck came to dead halt, looked down and the 4 wheel low had engaged. Vehicle wouldn't move and made awful grinding noises finally got it back into 2 wheel drive.(note the 4 wheel had stopped working completely at the end of february during a cold snap and lots of snow) went to drive home and truck again engaged into 4 low at 70 MPH on highway immediately slowing me down to 20 and almost throwing me out of control. Have no idea if it made grinding noises then as I thought I was going to crash. …”

“I was slowing down at an intersection to make a right hand turn. As I made the turn, my engine died. I lost power steering, and my vehicle was extremely difficult to control. I nearly hit another car. My engine restarted immediately after I placed the truck in park. The next day, my truck died again while slowing to enter an intersection. I immediately took it to a mechanic, who replaced the throttle body. On the way home, it died while make a right hand turn. This appears to be a common failing with the Chevrolet Colorado, and is very dangerous as it causes a loss of power steering.”

NHTSA complaint #10192450, filed 2007-06, 800 miles

“The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Colorado. A few days after the vehicle was purchased, the contact noticed that the gear would not shift into reverse. She went to the dealer and had the vehicle inspected. The mechanic informed the contact to shove the clutch in to shift the gear in reverse. She has to place the shift in every single gear before she can finally place it in reverse. She called the dealer and was given a paper stating that the vehicle was made to perform in that manner. The failure mileage was 187 and current mileage was 5,030. Updated 09/18/07”

NHTSA complaint #10200991, filed 2007-08, 187 miles

“The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Colorado. While attempting to make a left turn at 10 MPH, the steering wheel and tires suddenly locked, which caused the vehicle to come to a stop. The contact noticed that the low range indicator light illuminated on the instrument panel. She then pushed the button to place the vehicle into regular range, which allowed the vehicle to accelerate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the transfer case encoder motor was not functioning properly. The vehicle was serviced, but the failure still persists. There was no crash due to the failure. …”
