“My company just recently purchased dozens of 2017 chevy Express vans. One of these new vans (16 miles on odometer) experienced a faulty brake booster mechanical issue which caused the brakes to engage while turning the steering wheel. The design of the brake booster integration with the power steering pump was part of the problem. This is potentially fatal design flaw if you manufacture a vehicle that would engage the brakes just by turning the steering wheel.”
NHTSA complaint #11031985, filed 2017-10, 16 miles“My employer has three on a lease with bad master cylinder rear section proportioning valve not allowing cold driving rear brakes unless pumping brake pedal hard.”
NHTSA complaint #11206002, filed 2019-05, 1 miles“The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Express. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 35 MPH, the ABS inadvertently engaged, and the vehicle pulled to the left side. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and determined that the electronic brake control module assembly needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 136,000.”
NHTSA complaint #11581307, filed 2024-04, 136,000 miles“This module has now failed three times and Chevrolet has had this vehicle in one of their dealership lots since 10/5/2023 with no resolution and they've stopped communication with us.”
