“I have experienced the failure to shift from the park position into drive on a few occasions. Had to shut the car off, restart and then press the brake pedal down firmly and hold. Shift mechanism operated normally after that event. Not sure if this is a mechanical or electrical issue? I would suspect electrical.”

NHTSA complaint #10396594, filed 2011-04, 11,536 miles

“The power steering (electrical) warning light came on and my power steering failed as I was pulling out of a gas station making a left hand turn. I was able to put the car in reverse and back into the parking lot. I turned the car off and restarted it. The same warning flashed and the power steering failed again. My wife, eight-year old daughter, and I were getting ready to get onto the expressway before this occurred. …”

NHTSA complaint #10532222, filed 2013-07, 59,343 miles

“While driving and making my turn the powersteering went out on my 2010 chevy HHR .this has happened a few times now,the chime would sound and power steering showed in the dashboard and after restarting the car it seemed okay .I see there is alot of complaints on this safety issue and this needs to be address before someone is killed because it is very hard to complete a turn with no power steering and you just don't expect that to happen which is more scarier.”

NHTSA complaint #10487776, filed 2012-12, 51,600 miles

“A faint noise was heard and I pulled the vehicle over to the side of road walked around the entire vehicle looking to see if anything stood out, assessed the tires, engine and nothing appeared to be wrong. I proceeded to get on the ramp on and as I went through the toll booth driving around 40 MPH, the car accelerated to a speed of about 87 MPH, the steering could not be controlled it was almost as if it was in a locked position. Once the vehicle took off at the high speed, it then came almost to a complete stop. The sound of the engine was revving but the speed was not supporting the sound. …”

NHTSA complaint #11075777, filed 2018-03, 73,158 miles

“While driving over independence pass in colorado at 14,000 feet, about a half mile from the top on a windy, two lane road with lots of cars traveling in both directions the car began to stall and stumble. We had to pull over the best we could not to block traffic (this is a two lane no shoulder, no guardrail, mountain highway with many switchbacks) we were headed uphill and with no power had to roll slowly back to the switchback to turn around. The car would start and stumble just enough to maneuver it around going down hill. …”
