Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“I was driving home from work and the car started acting like it was uneven. I got to where I could pull over and found a balloon growing out of the side of my tire. The car is not that old and the tires in my past Impala's have lasted much longer. I am not happy with this. I had to call someone to help me so that it didn't explode and cause more damage.”

NHTSA complaint #10525706, filed 2013-07, 54,000 miles

“I'm a 68 year old male driver, who when buying a product expect a quality made american product. I have had two sidewall failures on the oem equipment tires that came on my car. The problems were potentially of a fatal nature if not discovered during a routine maintenance check. I own two vehicles with the eagle ls-2 tires, I have been told goodyear does not warrant sidewall failures.”

NHTSA complaint #10545323, filed 2013-09, 20,500 miles

“All 4 tires showed tread separation with mileage between 34000 and 49000 miles. The tread bubbled up on the inside tread edge of all tires. I had 3 flat tires due to this defect. Goodyear only offered what they called good will replacement at about half price. I paid to have the first 2 replace on 02/16/2013 and 11/04/2013. Both of these tires went down after highway driving. On 11/19/2013 I rotated the tires and noticed the remaining 2 original tires were showing signs of separation on the inside edge of the tread. …”

NHTSA complaint #10553083, filed 2013-11, 34,000 miles

“I purchased a 2011 chevy Impala at the end of december 2012. Since then, I have put about 10,000 miles on the vehicle with goodyear eagle ls-2 tires. Unfortunately, starting on june 13, 2013 I have had a series of sidewall blowouts. The first blowout was june 13. The second was july 29. The third was august 27. The first two blowouts happened while at speed on the highway. Fortunately, the third one happened while in town and driving less than 25 MPH. I heard a sound very similar to what I heard prior to the other two blowouts, so I immediately pulled over and inspected my tires. …”

NHTSA complaint #10537759, filed 2013-08, 42,500 miles

“Goodyear eagle ls2 tires. Vibration at 60 MPH chev dealer checked vehicle recently and said that in 3 of the 4 tires, the steel bands had shifted and that the tires should be replaced as soon as possible.”
