NHTSA complaint #10582861, filed 2014-04, 61,725 miles“I bought this vehicle used from paul conte Chevrolet in freeport, ny and it had 3 recalls that were not fixed before selling it to me. Now my power steering system malfunctioned to the point where the steering wheel would twitch uncontrollably and then become stiff, making it very difficult and dangerous to steer. I ended up paying for the repairs to the tune of almost $1700.00 to replace the steering column and steering motor. …”
NHTSA complaint #10810531, filed 2015-12, 84,000 miles“My 2006 Malibu shut off whille driving down the highway. The key was bumped and shut off the car. My wife was driving the car at the time. The ignition switch is very loose. I am not sure why there is not a recall on the 2006 Malibu?”
NHTSA complaint #10787890, filed 2015-11, 151,000 miles“Started the car and alarm bell rang. Gas gage was dead and power steering was gone. Had to stop the car and re start it and everything was back. Then we got out on the highway going 70 MPH and all the gages went dead, which has happened many many times before and have the routine down now. I pull over and shut the car down, which won't start back up until I do several things. I sit in the drivers seat, take the keys out of the ignition, open the door and lock it like I am leaving the car. …”
NHTSA complaint #10607651, filed 2014-07, 144,000 miles“My 2006 Chevrolet Malibu's airbags did not function in two separate hard-hitting crashes. The car's engine light often comes on and stays on until I drive over a large bump in the road or slam on my brakes to give it a jolt. I also smell fuel periodically. The horn has not worked for many years. I took my car to a dealer once with the request to replace my ignition switch because it gets stuck intermittently, and they strangely refused to replace it because it isn't malfunctioning for us. This was before the recalls became public. …”
