“I was standing on the tailgate of my 2001 chevy S10 zr2 when both the support cables snapped at the same time, sending me falling to the ground. There was no load on the tailgate other than my 195 lbs. There is no excuse for this to have happened on a truck of this year. This could result in serious persona injury for someone with a load on the tailgate.”

NHTSA complaint #10148063, filed 2006-01, 37,000 miles

“Tailgate strap, 1 broke about 2 months before the other one broke, nothing has been done to correct this, I figure they recalled all the full size truck to replace them ,they should replace these at no charge. Also, it is a good thin I was not standing on it when they broke . I could have gotten hurt by falling off when the tail gate fell to the bumper.”

NHTSA complaint #10118086, filed 2005-04, 39,368 miles

“On jan 29,2005 we were preparing to load groceries into the bed of the truck. We opened the tailgate and both of the support cables snapped causing the tailgate to fall onto the bumper. We haven't made arrangements for repair yet as I was checking to see if there has been any type of recall. I had known of the recall for the silverado and thought the s-10 may be included.”

NHTSA complaint #10108222, filed 2005-01, 24,880 miles

“Both tailgate support cables on my 2001 S10 pickup that has a blazer VIN # have broken in half due to rust and corrosion. I went to my dealer and that said that the recall only applies to fullsize pu/u's and other tailgate vehicles. My vehicle is not listed. I am seeing that the blazer S10 has a recall on these items. Why wouldn't mine? Can you help me get these repolaced?”

NHTSA complaint #10118471, filed 2005-04, 66,000 miles

“I have 2 GM trucks in my family. Both have had the same problem with all the door hinges - the hinge pins lock up and the doors will not open or close without deforming the body. I have been told (when I went in for repair at a dealership) that this is a standard repair for all GM trucks. The risk to the passenger is that the sheetmetal weakens and the hinge rips from the body of the truck.”
