Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“It dies going down the road at any speed, or pulling out of driveways, or at intersections. No accidents yet, it is an accident waiting to happen. The pump has been replaced 5 times, and now out of warranty, they say nothing can be done about it, we will just have to pay ourselves. It has been a continued problem, and feel the company should fix the problem again before someone gets badly hurt or is killed. Since there is no warning, and can die, just like you are turning the engine off. Please help. We wanted this note on record before something bad happens. …”

NHTSA complaint #711114, filed 2000-04

“Since 1994 four fuel injector pumps have been installed in this Chevrolet 1 ton diesel pickup, in july 2002 we were told by Chevrolet that it needs another one. Since it's out of warranty they would not pay the $2000.00 to repair it. It's the same continuous problem since ppurchase in 1994.”

NHTSA complaint #766947, filed 2002-09

“While driving down the highway, traveling 65mph, all of sudden vehicle completely shut off. Contacted dealer who said that the problem was fuel injection pump flaking, and getting into the return lines of fuel tank which pumped through other lines and plugged them up. It would cost about 3,000 dollars to repair.”

NHTSA complaint #860161, filed 2000-04

“A rock fell from the mountains while driving and hit the fuel tank. Gasoline started leaking from the tank. Consumer took the vehicle to dealer, and mechanic determined that fuel tank needed to be replaced.”

NHTSA complaint #10091843, filed 2004-09

“Fuel inj. Pump failed when only 900 mi. Repl. Under warranty, engine has either stopped running or will not run above idle probably 50 or more times since nov 1999 . When engine stops , you lose all steering & brakes (bad news on two lane road with loaded trailer) . Dealer replaced fuel lift pump , didnot fix problem now warranty is out . G.m.
