“The vehicle was involved in a frontal collision while driving at 40 MPH and none of the air bags deployed upon impact. Driver impacted the steering wheel, and driver's side seat belt didn't retract.”
NHTSA complaint #10027230, filed 2003-09, 84,000 miles“I went to exit my vehicle, in park, when I bumped the #2 memory seat setting on door. The seat went all the way forward. I was unsuccessful at getting it to stop or go in reverse while it was moving forward. It was hard to get out of the seat. My ribs were sore for 1 day. The seat was never programmed before this. I believe this is a dangerous factory setting. I called Chevrolet customer assistance and they were useless.”
NHTSA complaint #712994, filed 1999-10“The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado. Whenever the contact attempts to use the passenger side seat belt, the belt will not release out of the retractor. This prevents the contact from using the seat belt. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the retractor spring needed to be replaced. The contact did not notice any differences in the seat belt prior to the failure. The VIN was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 80,000.”
NHTSA complaint #10240945, filed 2008-09, 80,000 miles“Since we purchased the truck we've had numerous troubles with the seatbelts locking up and getting tighter until we have to pull off the road and release the belt buckle. Most times it happens to the rear seatbelts and from time to time the front seatbelts have the same problems. The problem starts when driving at any speed and hit a small bump in the road or a frost heave and the seatbelts lock up. We've tried to gently pull on the shoulder strap to loosen the belt, we've tried to jerk on the shoulder strap and the only thing that will loosen the belts is pushing the release button. …”
NHTSA complaint #759227, filed 2002-03“While driving and upon depressing the brake pedal it felt as if there was air in them. Had to push down harder than normal stop the vehicle. The seat belt began to tighten to the point where it was hard to breath. The consumer had to unfasten the belt to release the tension.”
