Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“When a passenger gets out of the front passenger seat a warning will flash saying to service the airbag. Problem will persists until the car is shut off and won't show up again until a passenger sits in the front passenger seat again. Seems to be a problem with the passenger occupancy sensor. The problem has persisted since beginning of ownership approx. 1 month ago, and continues until the date of this report.”

NHTSA complaint #11257657, filed 2019-09, 51,000 miles

“Car was purchased used on 9/12/18 with 50k miles and soon after purchase the service airbag warning pops up intermittently everyday during short or long drives. Common complaint is passenger airbag sensor but I have not taken it to be diagnosed since common repair costs is over 800 dollars.”

NHTSA complaint #11258248, filed 2019-09

“Service airbag warning on 2015 VOLT, which apparently is a well-known issue for which general motors refuses to take any responsibility. Airbags should not be a concern on car--ever. They want over $800 for the repair when it is clearly a manufacturing defect.”

NHTSA complaint #11385754, filed 2020-12

“The passenger presence sensor in the front passenger seat is malfunctioning and spare parts to replace it are not available from the manufacturer. The Chevrolet dealership has inspected and verified this issue, and the system is available for inspection upon request. This is the same issue that NHTSA investigated in the 2013 model described below. This sensor failure results in a check airbag signal and prevents the deployment of the passenger frontal and knee air bags, posing risk of serious injury to passengers. …”

NHTSA complaint #11501176, filed 2023-01

“The service airbag request keeps showing up and I was told it was the Passenger presence module and sensor. This puts people at risk of the airbag not deploying correctly.”
