Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“On a few seperate occasions while driving my 1996 Chrysler Town And Country my daughters seatbelt has just released without any warning. During 3 sudden stops the seatbelts have unlatched by themselves and one time while driving down the road my seatbelt came undone after I adjusted myself in my seat. We just bought this van 2 months ago. Also, without warning the body control module took out my entire electrical system, including my radio. There should be a sensor that it is going bad before it actually goes. …”

NHTSA complaint #10122473, filed 2005-05, 117,500 miles

“The seat belt in the integrated child safety seats locks up and the child cannot be removed without using the emergency release. The left seat is permanently stuck and the right seat occasionally releases. Chrysler has recalled 1995 and some 1996 minivans for the same problem but refuses to pay for repairs to my car because they say my car was built after those included in the recall period; however, the tag on the car seats states they were assembled in 1995. When I told this to customer service representative sal palazzola he only said that I was not in their computer for a recall.”

NHTSA complaint #734878, filed 2000-10

“Third row seat belt is very difficult to fasten because of its length, it is too short even on a normal size occupant. This leaves the occupant un protected in an accident. Consumer had problems unbuckling seat belt. It turned out that the buckle and the seat belt has turned 180 degrees, and the release button ended up on the inside instead of the outside.”

NHTSA complaint #10056070, filed 2004-03

“While stopping and without any indication vehicle was rear ended at 30 MPH. Driver's seat belt retractor did not retract, holding consumer in place, and causing consumer to hit windshield and roof of vehicle.”

NHTSA complaint #10055577, filed 2004-01

“Consumer had seen on new about the seat belt failure, even though that had not experienced problem yet, was concerned that it could happen to this vehicle. Had contacted dealer. Please provide more information.”
