Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Takata recall- while driving this afternoon my children called, from the second and third row seats, that the seat belts had ripped. Upon stopping I went to inspect the seat belts and saw that two of the seat belts had tears and one was completely severed.”

NHTSA complaint #10960254, filed 2017-03, 74,500 miles

“In march 2018, I went to put 7 passengers in my van and the passenger (a child) on the passenger side, third row, outboard seat informed me there was no buckle in that seating position. Upon further inspection I noticed there indeed was no buckle, just a piece of metal sticking up where the buckle should be. I contacted the dealer where I purchased the vehicle (I purchased it in november 2017 used) who informed me that I would need to wait until they were able to locate one. They never called back. …”

NHTSA complaint #11094136, filed 2018-05, 71,000 miles

“An oncoming driver failed to yield to oncoming traffic (me) before turning left. We narrowly avoided an accident, but when I braked hard and swerved, both of the seat belts in the third row holding my children's car seats came undone. (both children still use the five-point harness while in their seats.) one child (still strapped into her car seat) flew into the back of the front passenger seat and the other child (also still strapped into her car seat) flew into the back of the middle row seat directly in front of her.”

NHTSA complaint #10893959, filed 2016-08, 68,000 miles

“Driver's seat belt that is anchored to the seat (or car frame?) on the left side of driver came out when driver turned to look over shoulder. The seat belt is intact but whatever anchors it to the car somehow released the seat belt. The vehicle was in motion and on a city street at the time.”

NHTSA complaint #11397416, filed 2021-02, 200,000 miles

“The contact owns a 2012 Chrysler Town And Country. While removing the child safety seat from the vehicle, it was discovered that the rear passenger seat belt ripped and tore from the safety seat being secured to the rear seat. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 42,000.”
