“My 1999 Dodge Durango just stops running but usually starts back up again. My wife usually drives this car with our 3 children and presents a very dangerous problem if it stops running at the wrong time. There are many complaints on the internet about the same problem with this model. I feel that Dodge needs to investigate this problem and find a solution for its customers.”
NHTSA complaint #10281621, filed 2009-08, 102,000 miles“I own a 1999 Dodge Durango. I am about to have to replace the driver's side upper ball joint. I started hearing a noise about 2 weeks ago. I called the dealership and they told me that I am not included in the recall. I have researched several websites and there are 100 of 1999 durangos that are having the exact same problem. I also had to replace my engine.”
NHTSA complaint #10107947, filed 2005-01, 85,000 miles“I was driving on the expressway and my Dodge Durango began to stall. I put on my hazard lights immediately. Cars began to swerve to avoid me. I tried to pull off to the shoulder of the road but the engine cut off and then the brakes would not work until I tried to restart the car in neutral. I could not restart the car for 20 minutes. When the car did start I proceeded home. The car stalled three more times on the way home.”
NHTSA complaint #10215076, filed 2008-01, 145,000 miles“My 1999 Durango started experiencing a spark knock and engine oil consumption due to bad intake gasket design. I have talked to a couple of other Durango owners who have experienced the same problem at the same mileage. The gasket can't be properly tightened and oil leaks into the intake causing a knocking under load. The fix costs around $1,000.”
NHTSA complaint #10023370, filed 2003-06, 40,000 miles“Durango has had several problems. At 19000 miles I needed a new transmision, at 60,000 miles the engine needs to be replaced. Doge will not assist in the repairs or replacement. This is the most frustrating situation I have been in in quite some time. I will nbever buy a Dodge product again. Cost of repair is $ 5,000.00”
