“While driving my car stalls out, I keep having problems with ball joints, my sway bar or chain has busted, seat belt for driver will not retract, rust and erosion has been so bad that I actually had to replace the whole front bumper assembly, and I have no heat.”
NHTSA complaint #10795231, filed 2015-11, 85,000 miles“For my 1999 Dodge Durango the ball joints need to be replaced costing $800. I see that Dodge recalled the 2000 - 2003 Durango's for this issue, or at least the upper ball joints. I don't understand why 1998 and 1999 were not recalled as well. Especially since this is a safety issue that could cause loss of vehicle control at high speeds.”
NHTSA complaint #10222404, filed 2008-03, 96,700 miles“1999 Dodge Durango. I had the right front ball joint replaced in 2004 and now it is bad again (same one), which indicates that these wear improperly and there should be a recall. If I continue to dive my vehicle, I could get in a series accident or I have to come up with around 800.00 for a second time on the same part..”
NHTSA complaint #10230097, filed 2008-06, 79,000 miles“My 1999 Dodge Durango has been making strange creaking noises for some time. Every time I have taken it in for service, I've been told everything is okay. Just recently those creaking noises became worse. This time when I took the car in for service I found out it was a problem with the ball joint. It was recommended that I have it fixed as soon as possible. It cost $635 to fix.”
NHTSA complaint #10219816, filed 2008-03, 102,000 miles“The ball joints on my 1999 Durango are worn to the extent that I am concerned that it will break. I found the problem after momentarily losing control of the vehicle while braking. The brakes started working erratically some time ago under hard braking. I originally thought it was an ABS issue. I have parked the SUV until it can be repaired.”
