“I was driving on the highway at 65mph, and the vehicle shut off completely. Lost power steering, power brakes, everything. Had 3 small children in the car and had to with all my power (I am 5'9 235 lbs) navigate the vehicle to the side of the road. I have found this is extremely common problem with this vehicle. Many of the posts state is a manufacturing flaw of where the PCM is placed in the engine.”
NHTSA complaint #10460524, filed 2012-06, 138,001 miles“While driving at various times on the highways my car shuts down and I lose steering and power brakes which makes it hard to slow down and move to side of road. After 10 to 15 min l can restart my car.”
NHTSA complaint #10819177, filed 2016-01, 186,000 miles“I was driving about 25 miles per hour and everything on the system stopped. The steering stopped working, the brakes stopped working and the car turned off. It tends to happen on bumpy roads. This has happened multiple times in my 1999 Dodge Durango during the past year. I think it might be related to the ignition problem affecting other chrysler products. The Durango was not involved in that recall, but it seems as though this is exactly what happens with my truck.”
NHTSA complaint #10626490, filed 2014-08, 165,000 miles“Usually happens when it is hot out but the truck just shuts off with out notice all power too all gauges go to 0 power steering. Does not matter how fast or slow I am going. I have to park it and let it sit anywhere from 5 minutes up to two hours. I have had several parts replaced and the problem continues no one seems to have an answer. This is so dangerous not only for me but also all other drivers on the road. This needs to be figured out soon I fear for my life and the life of others.”
NHTSA complaint #10734397, filed 2015-07, 131,000 miles“I was driving down the highway when the vehicle powered down without notice. I lost my power steering and the powered brakes. It would randomly without any warning. Turns out it was the computer, and the mechanic said that Dodge is notorious for the computer failing. The computer is very close to the engine, and this causes the board to warp and connections to break. These cars need to be recalled, and this issue needs to be addressed, or it will get someone killed.”
