“It switches into 4 high and 4 low all by its self. The vehicle can be off for hours and it still will do it. The scary thing is it will shift like that while delivering as well. Very dangerous, and lucky there was not another vehicle either coming towards me or behind me, cuz I lost control of the vehicle and I an sure a incoming car would of kill everyone. This needs to be fix. There is hound to be a law suit and I read three is alot of other and you people know it.. This will be on you people,”
NHTSA complaint #11171011, filed 2019-01, 207,522 miles“Car stalls at stop light. No reason. Car started shifting into all wheel drive by itself. I could hear it shifting as I opened driver door, and car was not on. Did not know what the noise was. Car sounded like it was grinding the gears when moved into drive. Towed to shop. Transmission guy could not figure out why it changed all by itself. Cargo lamp is one if I open rear hatch. It will only go off if I close the hatch twice. Now airbag light is on, since new battery was replaced.”
NHTSA complaint #10918951, filed 2016-10, 148,225 miles“Today my Durango lurched forward uncontrollably, hitting 3 cars in the parking lot at the elementary school where I work. My foot was not on the accelerator. There was no way I could have accelerated that quickly in 12-14 feet to cause that kind of damage. If there had been any children out there, they could have been killed! It was the most terrifying thing that ever happened to me. A recall needs to be issued immediately or someone will be hurt or killed.”
NHTSA complaint #10649506, filed 2014-10, 189,000 miles“My mothers 2005 Durango flipped 7 times in champaign co. Ohio. It killed her. The Durango folded in like a pop can. And her seat belts failed. She always wore them. However the report said she did not have them on. I know she did the mark across her body at the corners showed it was on! And not 1 air bag deployed not 1. She lost controll of the vehicle and it began flipping 7 times. Hate durangos there not safe and it is the reason my mom didnt stand a chance at living threw the accident. Most likly caused by Durango junk. …”
NHTSA complaint #11122427, filed 2018-08, 195,000 miles“While driving, svc awd light comes on, then goes out. No problem there but that is only the beginning. In a slow hard turn on reverse, the wheels seem to bind up with an uncontrolled lock into four wheel drive. With my research into this problem, I discovered many other people with the exact same problem. 72 pages of the same complaint !! Some even tell the of car shifting into 4 wheel drive on the highway slowing the car into dangerously slow speed . I traced complaints back to 2004 , all deal with the transfer case shift motor or the wiring controlling it. …”
