“I was driving my vehicle , at about 65 MPH, when it suddenly locked. It a 4 wheel drive. I had the 4 wheel service light blink and the it suddenly locked and couldnt shift gears. I had to have my vehicle towed.”

NHTSA complaint #10763552, filed 2015-09, 70,000 miles

“Nitto terra grabbler. Purchased 4 tires on 11/12/15. Rear passenger tire failed / completely came apart and into two pieces while I was driving on a two lane road (pch) the safety brake cable was also damaged. I was towed home. The dealer and nitto have refused to replace the tire. Instead of keeping the tire for inspection, the dealer threw the tire away. Tire was gone the following day. I have pictures of the tire. I want all the tires replaced as there is a safety issue here with these tires that could result in great bodily injury or death. …”

NHTSA complaint #10967609, filed 2017-03, 175,000 miles

“I was pulling into a parking space and the car started skipping and jumping, vehicle was hard to steer and it also hesitated to go, turning was very difficult. The 4 lock light was flashing on all by itself and the knob has been on awd I only rarely switch the vehicle to 4 lock in the winter time. This makes about a dozen times it has happened to this vehicle. Twice in one day is very scary. I am very afraid of what might happen if I am going a higher speed at the time it decides to mess up. …”

NHTSA complaint #10544582, filed 2013-09, 125,000 miles

“My 2005 Dodge Durango shifts back and forth between 4wd and awd randomly. The 4wd light will come on and the vehicle shifts into lock without warning, making driving difficult and backups jumpy and jerky. It will shift back and run properly, but does not stay functioning long. There is a 'drag'' feeling to the vehicle when it slips into 4wd. This has made driving the Durango a concern and nearly tripled the amount of gas used for similar mileage. I am concerned that this could be a real safety issue. It goes into 4wd-lo and the tires lock up. …”

NHTSA complaint #10639356, filed 2014-09, 89,122 miles

“I have a 2005 Dodge Durango limited 4x4 it constantly locks into 4lo and 4lock all on its own and engages on its own even with vehicle off most times locking in 4lo causing tires to stick and very difficult to drive or turn this happens at any rate of speed also when first starting truck and putting it in drive or reverse transmission is gives a loud air leaking noise and takes a long time to pick up and drive I have just recently bought this vehicle and have taken it back to the dealer multiple times to be told they are unsure what is causing the issue. …”
