“I was driving my 2004 Dodge RAM 2500 5.9 diesel truck to work during rush hour morning traffic at approximately 25 MPH when the check engine light came on and a few seconds later the truck suddenly accelerated on its own to about 3500rpms. The roads were iced over from a previous snow storm. Due to the sudden acceleration on the ice, the rear tires broke traction and started sliding sideways before I could react to the sudden acceleration. I immediately applied the brakes with no results. …”
NHTSA complaint #10659127, filed 2014-11, 123,000 miles“Injector #4 fuel line has broken 8 times. 10-10-12 was the most recent. So far this year the line has broken 3 times. North star Dodge in san antonio has attempted to fix the issue without success at least 5 times. Dodge/chrysler customer cares response to repeated failure is... Live with it, it's an 04 . I have had fuel spray all over the engine each time. I have usually been on highway or interstate. I am concerned this is going to eventually result in a fire or accident.”
NHTSA complaint #10479812, filed 2012-10, 70,000 miles“Truck dies while driving and makes it extremely hard to steer ! Seems to be some sort of fuel problem ! This has been ongoing for several years and I don't trust it to attempt to drive in traffic to a dealer for repairs ! The truck currently has approx. 87,000 original miles on it ! Problem seem to start shortly after last dealer visit in 2008 for replacement of A/C ducting under dash ! Dealer shut down right after our president took office, as did many of the local Dodge dealers ! To me, it acts as if the fuel just shuts off. Hard to restart or steer - definitely a safety hazard ! …”
NHTSA complaint #11074695, filed 2018-02, 70,000 miles“Traveling on hwy at 55 MPH when truck lost all power including power steering. No warning. Steered to side of hwy and stopped. Hwy was under construction and 50 more yards I would have been in middle of road because no shoulder with construction. Truck restarted, and I continued on because in rural area. Truck stopped again in middle of intersection in town about 2hrs later. Dealer could not look at it until next day, so I had to drive home (40 mi) and hope I made it. Brought it back next morning and told needed new lift pump and would keep it overnight. …”
NHTSA complaint #10511430, filed 2013-05, 134,767 miles“I own a 2004 Dodge RAM 2500 diesel with a automatic transmission. This occurred on two occasions the first was on saturday 1/31/2015 and the second on monday 2/2/2015. I had just pulled out of my shop when the engine suddenly accelerated at extreme high speed, I slammed on the brakes immediately however as one can imagine the response time and/or the capacity of the braking system was limited due to the high torque of the engine. Non-the-less I was fortunate not to have any other vehicle in my vicinity. This same scenario occur two more time on my way home which is about 4 miles from my shop. …”
