“Diesel, 5.9 while driving at 50mph the check engine light illuminated and shortly there after the engine stopped running all together. I was able to safely stop the pickup along the shoulder of the roadway. I noticed the smell of diesel fuel and the left side of the engine was covered in diesel. After my pickup was towed home I researched the symptom and discovered I wasn't alone with this issue. …”

NHTSA complaint #10453883, filed 2012-04, 42,560 miles

“We noticed the fumes in the cab soon after we bought the truck. The dealer told me that the filters get clogged and I should drive it down the interstate to clean them out. When winter arrived and had to keep windows closed we were plowing and we started getting sore throats, burning eyes and nose. It gives me headaches. It leaves an after taste in your mouth. This occurs every time we come to a stop or backing up. …”

NHTSA complaint #10262688, filed 2009-03, 350 miles

“While towing a fifthwheel trailer I noticed smoke in the cabin and stopped the truck. Upon opening the hood I found a fire at the firewall on the right side behind the engine. Failing to be able to extinguish the flames I separated the truck and trailer and pushed the truck away from the trailer and dialed 911. The truck was a total lose and after contacting Dodge I was told that my truck had already had the recall performed (08v641000) and that they had never had any further problems with these vehicles. Clearly the recall failed to correct the problem at the very least in this case. …”

NHTSA complaint #10508576, filed 2013-04, 35,800 miles

“I was driving my truck across country and the power downgraded. I took it to a Dodge service dept and they told me my exhaust catalytic system was 90% plugged and it would cost over $6000 to replace it, but because of the nationwide problem with the catalytic system, there would be at least a 2 week wait to get the parts. I managed to drive it back to my home Dodge service dept. They gave me the same prognosis but only ordered a particulate filter, costing over $3000. Again, because of the high demand, I had to wait for the backordered part. …”

NHTSA complaint #10251264, filed 2008-12, 140,000 miles

“At 1047 miles, my new 2007, Dodge 3500, diesel 4x4 trucks catalytic converter showed 100% full. I was 75 miles from the nearest paved highway,(aka as the middle of nowhere!) and could only drive 5-15 MPH due to extremely bad road conditions. Upon contacting a service tech at my dealership, I was told the only way to get back would be to unbolt the converter. I did & was nearly gassed to death by the fumes. I experienced a headache and burning eyes for a couple of days after. The dealer has now re-attached the convertor, but nothing was done to correct the plugging problem of this convertor. …”
