Example complaints
Transmission and drivetrain: “Vehicle was going 50-55mph and rear wheels locked up. Vehicle slid all over the road, causing it to get stuck sideways on the hill. Transfer case leaked oil, and blewout rear differential. Vehicle was apart of NHTSA recall 98-v-069-002/ manufacturer's recall 780 in 1998. Dealer was aware that work was performed by an independent dealer.”
NHTSA complaint #8016084, filed 2002-08Engine cooling: “I bought the car and drove it less than 20,000 mile then the timing belt broke causing the exhaust valves to bend and mess the head up causing me to replace the engine ant almost $2000.00. I hear that this is an ongoing problem with these cars I read where people are sueing for repair.”
NHTSA complaint #10056831, filed 2004-02, 110,000 milesSeat belts: “Active restraint system fails to operate below 30 degrees (f). Chrysler part #mb791139. The shoulder belt mechanism locks and fails to release when below the above temperature. Because the component is beneath the center arm rest, it does not sufficiently warm until after an hour of vehicle use. The result is the shoulder belt cannot be used during the first hour of driving as it will not extend to its' intended position. This issue is consistent and occurs every day when the ambient temperature is below 30 degrees(f).”
